Small Business Owners in Alabama to Pay the Price for Low City Budget

Professionals in Alabama challenge business license proposal that would raise fees in order “to support the cost of running the city”.

Attorney Paul Young asked if the city currently had a budget shortfall. Councilman Turner Townsend said the recently-passed budget was balanced but did not include any money for capital projects…Attorney Carmen Howell said the city should consider alternatives such as Sunday alcohol sales to fund capital projects, rather than putting the burden “on the backs of businesses” in the community.

We’ve seen this financing method by cities time and time again. Is it fair to slap small business owners with higher fees in order to increase funds for city projects?

Inspectors Shut Down Unlicensed Vendors at Old Flea Market

A group of government inspectors shut down vendors who didn’t have appropriate permits and licenses at the old Dededo Flea Market Saturday morning.

They went around and asked, ‘Do you have a license to sell? If you don’t have a license to sell, you have to shut down,'” she said.

The Department of Revenue and Taxation “is trying to make sure everyone who does business on Guam has the appropriate license,” Governor’s Communications Director Oyaol Ngirairikl said Saturday. “This morning’s effort was part of that.”

This Primitive Business Struggles with Compliance

Local home retail business owner is upset after the city revokes her business license for the second time, feeling as though she’s being targeted. Kingwood, WV City Council has an explanation.

Preston Primitives was instructed several weeks ago to remove their sign because of violation of building permits,” Robertson [City Council meeting Recorder) said at the meeting. “They took down their sign, and through time it was placed up against their house and on weekends they brought it back to where it was. It is our opinion that it is a violation of the building permit, and they were not issued a building permit.

Subscription canceled for solicitors in AL

Three men were arrested in Alabama for going to door-to-door, selling magazines without a business license.

“There are certain rules they have to go by,” Captain Brad Mason said. “They were made aware of these. They didn’t comply with the rules and so that’s why they were arrested the second day they were soliciting.”

If someone plans to be involved in door-to-door solicitations, they need to be aware of the strict requirements that come with it. It may seem simple to start this work, but you first may need to go through things like background checks and fingerprinting. Every time police get involved in a business activity – like they do for second-hand dealing – there can be very tough guidelines.

Webinar Will Examine Licensing Issues for Ridesharing Companies and Other Disruptive Businesses

There is no industry in America that is safe from disruption. Professionals who care about proper compliance with government rules and regulations should be aware of how their department may be turned on its head by sudden innovations that originate elsewhere. In an upcoming webinar, Business Licenses LLC will discuss disruptions and how they impact regulatory compliance for all of us. We will discuss some of the world’s most talked about business models and draw lessons that every tax and legal department will want to internalize.

In particular, our panel will discuss (1) Uber, Lyft, and the never-ending regulatory challenges of ridesharing companies, (2) the rise of home health care as an essential medical service, and (3) how technology upgrades have turned ordinary retailers into second-hand dealers.

The webinar will be conducted on Thursday, February 26th at 2pm EST. The presentation will run for 45 minutes, followed by questions. If you are interested, register here.
