SC County Changes License Law to Avoid Problems

Crackdown underway on South Carolina businesses as leaders change business license law to curb illegal activity.

Now, new businesses will have to complete a detailed application that identifies everyone involved in the business. They’ll also have to identify who will be operating the business, give any criminal or nuisance history, and businesses serving alcohol after midnight will have to complete a safety plan…“It’s all about safety, creating safety in these late night establishments to help our police officers know who we’re dealing with…

Better to avoid any illegal activity to begin with. Figure out what licenses and permits your business needs, file for them, and obtain them.

ID City Council Looks For A Way To ID New Businesses

Pocatello, ID City Council considers implementing a general business license as a way to track businesses.

…Pocatello Fire Department Chief David Gates estimate that about 3,000 to 3,500 businesses operate within city limits. “But that’s the hard part — without requiring a (city) business license, we really don’t know for sure,” Gates said. Currently, businesses such as daycare facilities, alcohol sellers and taxi operators need a city license, but there is no requirement or procedure for general business licenses.

The city may be requiring businesses to have a license, but that doesn’t mean they’re helping the business owners obtain a business license. That’s where helpful tools like LicenseSuite and filing assistance come in. Take advantage.

City Officials and Local Businesses Talk Trash

Trash hauling businesses in Reading, PA are fighting accusations that they’re guilty for not paying business license fees and taxes, saying they were told years ago that they’re in the clear.

Cindy Kemp, co-owner of Cleon Kemp Sanitation, said Friday that she has a letter dated March 19, 2007, from the city tax department saying that unless the firm had a physical location in the city, it did not need a business license or have to pay business privilege taxes… However, City Managing Director W. Glenn Steckman III said the letter was not based on legislation but rather on a Commonwealth Court ruling that said a business not located in the municipality didn’t have to pay the privilege tax. “That decision was appealed to the state Supreme Court and it was overturned,” Steckman said.

It’s unfortunate that there is so much confusion whether or not business license fees and taxes apply to these businesses without physical locations in the city. Especially because it could have all been avoided. Using LicenseSuite or ordering a Compliance Package will ensure you’re never at odds with city officials.

Tallahassee bids farewell to business license tax

Leaders of the Florida capital granted the request of the Chamber of Commerce to repeal the city’s business license tax, benefiting local business owners and becoming the first city in The Sunshine State to do so. Part of the intention is to enable local business growth and show appreciation for those running them.

“Our city commission, our commissioners, our mayor, also look at it as a privilege to have business here. And if there is something that we can do on the public sector side to contribute to that, and show you that we understand, your being here is creating jobs, growing your business, employing our residents, it’s a significant contributor to the stability and growth of Tallahassee.”

This is certainly pleasant news for small business owners in Tallahassee who get put that money back in their pockets. Owning a business license, though, is still a requirement. LicenseSuite can help determine what licenses are needed for business any industry out there. Filing assistance services are available as well.

Food trucks in Ohio town get regulated

In a unanimous motion, North Olmsted City Council passes legislation requiring mobile food vendors to obtain multiple licenses in order to operate as they aim to better regulate the mobile food trend.

The intent of the law, as stated previously by Law Director Michael Gareau Jr….is not to be prohibitive in nature but to institute proactive measures to ensure regulatory consistency. Chapter 735, Food Trucks, of the city business regulation code has been created to ensure compliance with health and safety regulations.

It’s not as simple to sell food from a truck on the street as it used to be. There are health requirements. There are vehicle requirements. It’s also not simple to actually figure out what licenses are needed to start operating a food truck and then having to deal with local authorities who may not be willing or helpful.
Thank goodness for a website that figures out exactly what you need for you, and also for services that handle all the filing on your behalf. They make it easy for you to get your truck up, running, and serving.

San Francisco orders Uber and Lyft drivers to obtain business licenses

San Francisco has introduced legislation requiring 37,000 ride-sharing app drivers to obtain business licenses in order to operate in the city.

Uber is not planning to fight, according to an email from spokesperson Laura Zapata: “Uber partners with entrepreneurial drivers and as independent contractors, they are responsible for following appropriate local requirements.”

Uber may not be fighting the new law, but that won’t prevent their drivers from having to fight their way through authorities to actually get their business license. That’s where our services come in.

Uber drivers struggling to figure out how to obtain or actually get their business licenses can use our services to get all the forms they need to apply or they can choose our full-service option and then the only thing the driver needs to do is receive the license.
